CarrelsClosed carrels, designed for quiet research and study, are available primarily for advanced degree (i.e., Th.M., Ph.D. and Resident D.Min.) students. Any remaining closed carrels may be assigned to:
The JKM Library assigns closed carrels for the duration of a semester at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters on a first come basis. Ordinarily, failure to use a closed carrel on a regular basis may result in the carrel being assigned to another library user. If you plan on using your carrel next semester, you must submit a new application by the beginning of the fall or spring semester. Carrels may be used only when the JKM Library is open. You must leave your carrel at closing time. Pick up the key to your carrel at the circulation desk each time you visit the library. In exchange, you will be asked to leave your JKM library card at the circulation desk for security reasons. When you leave, please return the key to the circulation desk and your library card will be returned to you. Replacement cost for a lost key is $5.00. In order to ensure free access to library materials by all researchers, no non-circulating library materials (e.g., current or bound periodicals, reference materials, microform) may be stored in a carrel. All circulating library materials stored in your carrel must be checked out at the circulation desk. JKM Library reserves the right to check closed carrels periodically. Ordinarily, failure to comply with these regulations may result in the carrel being reassigned to another library user. If you decide to vacate your carrel at the end of the semester, please take all personal property with you. JKM Library assumes no responsibility for any items lost or stolen from your carrel. Because closed carrel walls do not extend to the ceiling, please respect the needs of other users and keep your voices low and your conversations to a minimum. Cellular telephone use is discouraged; if possible, please turn off the ringer of your cell phone while in the library. No food or smoking is permitted in a carrel. LockersLibrary users affiliated with LSTC or McCormick are welcome to apply for the use of a small storage locker on the second or third floors of the library. In order to ensure free access to library materials by all researchers, no non-circulating library materials (e.g., current or bound periodicals, reference materials, microform) may be stored in a locker. All circulating library materials stored in a locker must be checked out at the circulation desk. JKM Library reserves the right to check lockers periodically. Ordinarily, failure to comply with these regulations may result in the locker being reassigned to another library user. Replacement cost for a lost key is $5.00.
