Genealogical Research ServicesThe JKM Library, as evidenced in its mission statement, exists to serve the mission and programs of LSTC and McCormick. It does not intentionally collect genealogical data. However, though our purpose is not to be a genealogical resource, some of our holdings may have some genealogical value. To save the researcher time, and to keep our small staff from being inundated with such research requests, we provide this information guide for genealogists. Genealogists should know that the archives of McCormick and LSTC hold almost no information about former students of any of its parent schools. The registrars’ offices may have information about former students — basic information such as dates of attendance, degrees granted, etc. The LSTC and McCormick archives may hold materials about professors of the schools. For further information and contact information, consult the Archives section (under Collections) of the JKM Library web site. When requesting genealogical information from us, we need to know:
If there is some chance that we hold information which will be helpful to you, we will conduct genealogical research for you at the rate of $25.00 per hour. We require that the first hour’s research be paid in advance (please make your check payable to: JKM Library). With that first hour’s research fee we include up to 20 photocopies at no additional charge. The library staff will decide if materials are sturdy enough to endure such copying. Photocopies in excess of 20 exposures will be charged at the rate of $0.25 per exposure; photocopying orders exceeding 50 exposures will be charged an additional $10.00 per hour service fee. We cannot guarantee that any searching will locate material pertinent to your request, and we cannot return research fees if no information is located. Be aware also that such research is time-consuming and can easily take many hours. If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you wish our research to continue until we have either located the desired information or have exhausted search options. Be advised that all genealogical searches are subject to staff availability. For further information or to submit a genealogical research inquiry, please contact (in writing) Barry C. Hopkins ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). |
